Survey Result – Some Correlations

Note: Economic left is negative, Liberal is negative. E.g. the top left cell indicates economic leftiness and view of CAMRA have a correlation of 0.20.

As you can see, there are some very interesting results.

Once again I emphasise that we shouldn't presume that these results are true for the British beer world at large. These result only tell us about the 72 (and counting) respondents to the survey. Still – makes you think doesn't it?

I have colour-highlited some pairs of figures I find particularly interesting.

What's a correlation I hear you ask?

Note: Economic left is negative, Liberal is negative. E.g. the top left cell indicates economic leftiness and view of CAMRA have a correlation of 0.20.

Do you have any error figures for these numbers? Standard deviation figures or whatever is relevant?

You'll have to spell it out for me.

OK, so, does it mean that if you are in, of have been in the beer trade the more right wing you are the more likely you are to have a positive view of CAMRA? However, if you are just a punter the more left wing you are the more likely you are to have a positive view of CAMRA?

'Scuse my stupidity.

eerrrr can you explain it so a simple young man from Yorkshire can understand?

Oh goody, I thought it was just me that was stupid. I've done a little bit of this sort of things as well.......

Dave: Let's say significance is not high.

I've been a bit hampered by not having Excel to work with. I've been doing it all in Google docs.

I may well go into much more detail when I get Excel working again.

r.e. your stupidity – very good question. I think the correct interpretation is that in the trade your view of CAMRA is likely to be lower if you're more lefty rather than higher as we see in the general population.

I find the figs I've hilighted green particularly interesting.

It seems that if you're in the trade (or have been) the older you are the less likely to be fond of CAMRA you will be. This contrasts with the non-trade people where older means fonder.

Quite a marked difference.

It is all very interesting. The thing that is not explicit, but seems to also be the case: If you are in the trade you are likely to be somewhat less fond of CAMRA.

Mind you, I'm not sure I needed your survey to tell me that.

Word verification: "suppy" I love these things.
